Tooth brushing is advised twice a day for children as soon as their teeth start erupting. For those under the age of 3 years old we recommend just a smear of toothpaste which contains no less than 1000 parts per million fluoride. It is advised that during these early years that parents brush their children’s teeth and that children are supervised up until the age of 8 years old.
Children who are aged 3-6 years old can then progress to a toothpaste which is higher in fluoride strength (over 1000 parts per million fluoride). We also ask that they spit out the toothpaste but not rinse it off with water; for the same reasons we have mentioned in adult tooth brushing.
Children who are aged from 7 years and above should also be using an adult strength toothpaste (1350 – 1500 parts per million fluoride). For effective cleaning the front, back and biting surfaces must all be cleaned.
